Military Aircraft Crash in Boufarik: Saharawi Government Declares Seven Days of National Mourning

Chahid El Hafed (Saharawi Refugee Camps), April 11, 2018 (SPS) -In an emergency meeting, The Permanent Bureau of the National Secretariat of the Frente POLISARIO has declared seven days of national mourning following of the tragic incident of military aircraft of Ilyushin type crashed on Wednesday morning near the Boufarik Air Base (Blida)

Chaired by the President of the Republic, Secretary General of the Frente POLISARIO, Brahim Gali, the Bureau held an emergency meeting following the crash of a plane of the Air Forces of the People's National Army in Boufarik (Blida)

“Among the passengers of the said aircraft are thirty Sahrawi patients returning from a period of treatment in Algerian hospitals,” the official communiqué noted

It has also decided to form a national committee, headed by the Minister of the Interior, with the membership of the Minister of Public Health, the Saharawi Ambassador in Algeria, representatives of the State Secretary for Documentation and Security and the Ministry of Justice and Religious Affairs, to follow up on the situation of the victims and make the appropriate decisions regarding the tragedy.

In the communiqué, the Bureau of the Frente POLISARIO has appreciated the constant collaboration of the Algerian authorities expressing its maximum most heartfelt condolences to the families of the victims.

The plane Ilyushin II-76 (of the Armed Forces of Algeria) crashed in the morning when taking off from the military airport of Boufarik. So far, 257 victims have been reproted.
