The program features our regular PANW report with dispatches on the recent outbreak of cholera in Kenya amid a political crisis involving the Supreme Court's nullification of the Aug. 8 presidential elections; in Zimbabwe the ruling ZANU-PF government is favored to win the national elections to be held next year; an ancient Roman city has been discovered under the sea in Tunisia; and the North African state of Egypt is poised for major development projects planned jointly with the People's Republic of China.

In the second hour we continue our commemoration of the 38th Annual Detroit Jazz Festival with an interview with Wayne Shorter the artist-in-residence this year.

Finally we look back at the life, times and contributions of Jazz great Duke Ellington.
